Garden

Little remains of the original layout of the garden to which Bernardo Cles dedicated great care. The garden contained a large variety of fragrant and ornamental plants and in the centre, a fountain with a statue of Neptune; originally the loggia set along the Magno Palazzo’s southern wing opened onto the garden and was decorated with frescoes (now lost) by Marcello Fogolino and contained an artificial grotto made of tuff with autonomously functioning fountains.

In the 19th century the arches were bricked-in and the loggia became a prison of the Austrian government. The current garden is a reconstruction carried out by Giuseppe Gerola in the 1920’s.
